Following childbirth, many women experience a change in breast shape and volume, as well as a change in the appearance of their tummy, hips, buttocks, and thighs.
The Mommy Makeover helps you regain the shape and the figure you had before you had children.
Am I a Candidate for a Mommy Makeover?
Mommy Makeover surgery targets the areas most affected by pregnancy to reduce the visible signs of the process. Women considering a Mommy Makeover should not smoke, be in good overall health, have no plans for additional children (as this can impact the quality of results), and have realistic expectations.
Mommy Makeover surgery benefits women who hope to:
- Restore breast fullness
- Eliminate breast sagging
- Define tighter contours
- Achieve a smoother stomach
To see if you are a candidate for a Mommy Makeover, contact Dr. Gallas by calling our Katy office at (281) 646-1114 to set up a consultation.
What Is Included in a Mommy Makeover?
Your Mommy Makeover is a combination of surgical procedures that are performed under general anesthesia with the assistance of a board certified anesthesiologist that will monitor your vitals and ensure your safety.
Since every woman’s body responds to pregnancy differently, there are no set requirements when it comes to the Mommy Makeover. This procedure is customized to you, depending on what would benefit you the most.
Breast Lift Surgery
Time, weight, gravity, and pregnancy can have a significant impact on a woman’s breasts, causing them to lose fullness and sag.
Breast lift surgery eliminates this sag by tightening the tissues and removing the extra skin. A breast lift is commonly performed using the anchor technique, where the incision runs around the areola, down the lower pole of the breast, and across the inframammary fold (where the bottom of the breast meets the ribcage).
During this procedure…
- The glandular tissues in the breasts are tightened, causing the elevation of the breast to rise
- The nipple-areola complexes typically reduced and are repositioned toward the center of the breast
- Excess skin is trimmed away
- Incisions are pulled together around the newly contoured breast.
A smaller incision may be utilized for women with a lesser degree of ptosis (breast sag).
Breast Augmentation
Women who lose breast fullness after pregnancy may also benefit from breast augmentation. Breast augmentation uses saline or silicone implants to provide the fullness that has been lost.
These implants are inserted through incisions made around the areola or within the inframammary fold, and situated either above or below the pectoral muscle.
Breast implants are highly customizable and result in a younger-looking, more attractive bustline.
Tummy Tuck
After pregnancy, diet and exercise may not be able to tighten loose abdominal muscles. Pregnancy and childbirth cause the abdominal muscles and skin to stretch, which can result in the separation of the abdominal muscles. Tummy tuck surgery is the only way to repair this separation and remove any loose or stretched abdominal skin.
Tummy tuck surgery allows you to achieve a flatter, tighter midsection. Dr. Gallas uses various procedures to tighten the abdominal muscles and remove excess skin and fat for a smoother tummy and a more slender waistline.
Liposuction
Women accumulate and store fat deposits across their bodies during their pregnancy to help and comfort their growing baby. Unfortunately, these new fatty pockets do not always disappear following childbirth.
Liposuction removes excess fat from the abdomen, hips, flanks, thighs, buttocks, back, arms, and under the neck. Dr. Gallas offers tumescent liposuction and the VASERlipo® system, which uses ultrasound to gently and precisely remove areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise.
Alternative Combination Procedures
Most procedures performed in a Mommy Makeover address the breasts and the abdomen, but they are not the only areas affected by one or more pregnancies. While liposuction can reduce fat in other regions of the body, it cannot remove excess skin.
For patients with excess skin on the thigh or arms, a thigh lift or arm lift can be combined.
Women can also combine their Mommy Makeover with labiaplasty to restore the look and comfort of their vagina.
What Will My Mommy Makeover Recovery Be Like?
Mommy Makeover is an outpatient procedure, and you can return home within a few hours of your surgery. You will need someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first few days of your recovery to assist with household chores like cleaning, cooking, and childcare.
Compression dressings/garments may be wrapped around breasts, abdomen, or any other treated areas. These garments will minimize the amount of bruising and swelling and promote blood circulation.
Dr. Gallas will advise you on how long to wear these compression garments and when you can remove any surgical tape or gauze.
Patients should expect to be sore following their Mommy Makeover, and many women require at least two weeks off of work and their normal day-to-day activities. Oral medication will be prescribed to you to alleviate any discomfort, and many women choose to switch to over-the-counter pain medication after a few days.
Women should not lift, push, or pull anything over 10 pounds or participate in strenuous exercises for at least six weeks.
When Will I See My Mommy Makeover Results?
While the results of your Mommy Makeover start to take shape immediately, your bruising and swelling will obscure the quality of those results. Most of the swelling will dissipate within the first few weeks, but some swelling may linger for up to six months.
Most women remain satisfied with their Mommy Makeover results for several years. Women should stay at a stable weight and avoid future pregnancies to extend the longevity of the results. While these procedures will not prevent you from having more children, you may notice an aesthetic change to your physique.
What Is the Cost of Mommy Makeover?
Due to how personalized this procedure is, cost will vary based on your goals and needs, amount of time in the operating room with anesthesia costs, facility fees, etc. During your individual consultation with Dr. Gallas, we will be able to provide you with a specific price for your procedure.
